Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom

Last time I was at DisneyWorld I saw all these kids running around the park and activating these spots that caused a curtain to open and an animation to play before getting a symbol and running off. It was the weirdest thing! I didn't think much of it, who would you even ask to try to figure out what it was? Well when I was planning my upcoming trip, I learned exactly what it was - Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom.

Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom is basically active card game. When you get to the Magic Kingdom, head to the firehall on the right. Once there, you will start your quest.

There will be a video where Merlin explains that Hades has caused issues in the park and needs your help to defeat him. From there, you will go to the desk and get signed up as well as receive your first pack of cards, a map, and your first symbol. Use the map and head to the symbol.

Once you are in the area where the symbol showed on the map, look for a relatively large, bronze key hold, wave your magic band in front of it, and you will activate an oval video screen with an animation. This animation will do one of two things, it will either give you a symbol as to where to go next or you'll have to fight a Villain. To fight the Villain, pick a card from your deck and hold it in the middle of the screen (or in front of the camera if the glass it dirty). Finding the sweet spot as to where your card gets read can be a pain in the ass so feel free to move it around slowly until it picks up. If it times out, just wave your magic band over the lock and try again.

You will keep going around to the various locations in the park until you defeat the boss in the park section and then you'll be sent to another area of the park. Defeat them all and you get to fight Hades; defeat him and you increase a level and get a new boss to fight (after you go through all the sections in the park of course). It takes about 20 - 30 min per villain (not boss) and about 5 hours in total to complete the entire game.

The game does a good job of sending people to portals that are not busy (don't be surprised if you are sent back to the same one more than once) so the lines don't get too long. However if there is a line, they move pretty quick.

Sometimes the system goes down (your cards won't scan, the people after you have the same problem, and then the next people do, etc) and if that happens just let a park employee know. They will fill out a book as to when it went down and radio someone to reset it. Give it about 30 minutes and then try again.

For the first level, the card you use to defeat the Villain does not really matter but as the levels get harder it does! Additional cards can be purchased at the Emporium (the pack will come with 7 cards - 1 will be super rare) and a bonus is that it turns it into a game you can play at home as it comes with a board and tokens. Each board will be one of 4 bosses and they are at random. These packs can sell out quick and are non-returnable / exchangeable. They are hot items so make sure to check the pack before purchasing! I bought one and the bottom had been slit, the cards missing. I did not notice this until we got back to the hotel and trying to get them to replace it was like trying to pull teeth.

Every morning you get a new pack of cards at the Firehall and everyone who has a wrist band gets their own cards. When you defeat the boss, you get an extra pack of cards. You only get one key however so pick someone that can tap their wrist easily. The battery on the wrist bands are good for 5 years so that means the game data is saved for 5 years so if you come back, make sure to bring the wrist band! Also, feel free to trade cards with other players to try and get the full set. If you have any cards with a lightening symbol, those are rare so make sure to get a good trade!
