What to (generally) Pack for a Flight

by Female Abroad

We all have our tricks when it comes to packing but what if this is your first flight? or how about your first long haul flight? Well, do not fear! Here are my must haves for both!

Long Haul (5+ hours)

Electronics

- smart phone and/or tablet

- all my charging cords (don't pack in checked baggage in case they get lost!)

- portable charger

- camera

- headphones, comfortable headphones

- headphone splitter as mentioned in my previous article

Personal Items

- socks (in case baggage gets lost

) - underwear (in case baggage gets lost)

- the toiletry kit I listed in the Jet Lag article

- Chapstick / lip balm hair elastic

- feminine hygiene items (tampons work for nose bleeds! These do happen since the air is so dry)

Creature Comforts

- snack

- 1L bottle of water

- medicine (if needed)

- pain pills

- band aids

- travel pillow

- Green tea (in case your baggage gets lost)

Paper & Plastic

- Passports, visas, photo ID

- Insurance card

- Photo copies of passports, visa's, ID, and trip information (hotel confirmations, vouchers, etc)

- Cash for the country we were coming from and going to - Book (optional)

- Crossword

- Credit cards

- Photo of your suit case (in case it gets lost)

Short haul is pretty much the exact same minus a couple items

Remember that you will need to tailor these to the trip you are taking. Going from Vancouver to Calgary is not going to require more than your ID. Going from Beijing to Cambodia however will.

Enjoy your travel and tell us about it once you are back!
