Cruise Port: Miami

by Female Abroad

Port of Miami is found on a two-island, seven air conditioned terminals (12 cruise lines dock there currently), complex in Biscayne Bay, adjacent to downtown Miami and only 8 miles from the Miami International Airport. It is the largest year-round terminal in the world and sees over 4 million passengers a year.

If you have landed and are going straight from the airport to the cruise port you have a few options to get around:

  1. long-term parking with a complimentary shuttle to the terminal
  2. taxi ride: fares are regulated and there is a flat rate to the port. Rate is per trip not passenger and includes the tolls as well as the airport surcharge but not a tip
  3. uber / lyft
  4. pre-booked cruise shuttle through the cruise line
  5. limo
  6. drive
  7. pre-booked shuttle: we use Super Shuttle a lot; super shuttle is on demand at Miami but you need to make a reservation on the website to get back

Things to Do

If you have some time to kill in the area then you can pop over to the Bayside Marketplace which is a busy open-air mixture of shops, restaurants, and various entertainment. There is also a 90 minute boat tour that departs from the marketplace that will give you a tour of the port, views of Miami skyline as well as waterfront mansions, and more. If you don't want to leave the terminal there is duty-free shopping you might be able to enjoy depending on your cruise.

If you are looking at killing more time then there is a hop-on/off bus that departs from Bayfront Park's Central Station and makes various stops in Miami and South Beach like Vizcaya, Biltmore Hotel, Coral Gables, and Little Havana. Another option would be taking the elevated Metromover to downtown Miami to do some shopping.

Driving from the Aiport

  1. Take the I-95 and follow the signs to "Biscayne Boulevard"
  2. Make a right, go to 5th street (turns into Port Boulevard) and make a left at the American Airlines Area.
  3. Go over the Port Bridge and follow the signs to your terminal.
