Budget Attractions in Amsterdam

by Female Abroad

The magnificent cultural city of the Netherlands welcomes visitors of all ages and nationalities, with young people and independent travellers particularly benefiting from the advantages of the budget options in Amsterdam. Here are a few must-see locations for tourists looking to get the most out of their trip to this charming city without breaking the bank.

Singel

The old city was previously guarded by this moat, but in 1585 it was outgrown by the city's growth. It now functions as a canal that links a number of famous locations, including the Muntorren tower and the Bloemenmarkt flower market. Along the banks of the Singel, there are a few hostels in Amsterdam that can be reached by foot, making it a great site for first-time tourists to start their journey.

Dam Square

The Dam Square is the actual historical centre of the city, despite the fact that its sights are modest in comparison to the more opulent sites that surround it. However, the various structures and landmarks in the square have been the scene of some of the most significant historical events in the Netherlands, from the Dam itself serving as the reception site for Napoleon's takeover in 1808 to the Koninklijk Paleis (or Royal Palace) nearby serving as the administrative centre.

Efteling

Theme parks are your thing, so you should certainly check out Efteling. It is not only the biggest theme park in the Netherlands, but it is also among the oldest and most well-established in the entire world. The rides and attractions based on the numerous well-known fairy tales that originated in the Netherlands, such as the Langnek and the Emperor's New Clothes, are of particular appeal.

Van Gogh Museum

If you can only visit one museum due to time constraints or financial constraints, make it the museum honouring one of the most well-known painters in the world. Its 200 paintings, 400 drawings, and 700 letters make up a sizable enough collection to show how Van Gogh's art evolved over time, from sombre earth tones to vibrant, mesmerising colour palettes.

Civic Guards Gallery - The Schuttersgalerij

A sizable collection of paintings by artists capturing various eras of Dutch society may be found at the Schuttersgalerij. But its free admission sets it apart from the rest of the list. The fact that everyone can enter and enjoy the artworks on show is always enticing to visitors staying in budget hostels in Amsterdam. The exhibit itself is modest in comparison to its larger neighbours, but the free admission makes it a great option.

Vondelpark

Want to take some time to unwind and escape the city's noise and bustle? The Vondelpark is the ideal location. In addition to being conveniently adjacent to many of the city's museums, it also houses one of the top hostels in Amsterdam. If you're lucky, you might be able to attend a free performance of a play or concert, and you'll be able to see the well-known statue of the poet and playwright Vondel, after whom the park is called. An interesting fact is that Vondel's statue gained so much notoriety that the park, which was originally called Nieuwe Park when it initially opened in 1865, was later renamed in his honour.

To make the most of your time in this wonderful city, keep all of these attractions in mind.
